Carolyn's Pound Cake

Carolyn’s Pound Cake is I think the best recipe on this site. It takes a little more effort but it is worth every minute. I have not found a pound cake recipe that compares to this one for taste.

I have made it in two large loaf pans and also in one bundt pan. This makes an awesome gift at the holidays.

3 cups of sugar (yes, that is 3)
1 stick of butter
½ cup Crisco
5 eggs
3 cups regular plain flour
½ tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream together: sugar, butter, and Crisco. Add eggs one at a time, beating 5 minutes after each addition (yes I have cheated a little on the 5 minutes, but beat well) In separate bowl, sift together flour and baking powder. Add 1 tsp. flour mixture to 1 cup milk. Alternate adding flour and milk mixture to batter. Grease either 3 small loaf pans or 1 bundt pan. Pour batter in pan/s. Place cake in cold oven and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes for bundt pan, or 45 minutes for loaf pans. Cool in pan until it can be landed.

This recipe came to me titled "Baptist Pound Cake" but no one could ever find out the origin of the name. My friend Carolyn gave this recipe to my family and I renamed it in her memory.
