Macaroni and Cheese
In the South Macaroni and Cheese is considered a vegetable. It is the ultimate comfort food that kid's just love. This recipe is the best I have found for that home cooked taste. Don't overcook or it will become dry.
1 8 oz pkg. elbow macaroni (about 2 cups uncooked)
2 cups milk
¼ cup flour
1 tsp onion salt
4 ½ cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup breadcrumbs (4 slices bread w/o crusts)
¼ cup butter melted
Cook macaroni according to package directions & drain. Add milk, flour & onion salt to a quart jar, cover tightly & shake for 1 minute. Stir together macaroni, flour mixture & 3 ½ cups cheese. Pour into greased 9 x 13 inch casserole dish. Sprinkle evenly with remaining cheese & breadcrumbs. Drizzle with melted butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes until golden.
